Archive for February, 2009
Last weekend was my first time at Vancouver’s biggest blogger/social media conference, 2009 Northern Voice.
It was a great chance to meet some of the folk I see on Twitter – including social media star Robert Scoble, aka The Scobleizer

Robert Scoble and Liz Hargreaves, 2009 Northern Voice
We even had lunch together (OK we stood around chatting with wraps). He showed me his tech gadgets – my item of tech longing the Nokia N-95 (for fast mobile photos) and the iPhone (for everything else). We talked about the tough times for print and media in general and how great Kindle is (cheap books – can read even in sun glare).

Robert Scoble chats with Steve Pratt
Scoble is still talking about Director of CBC Radio 3 and Digital Programming for CBC Radio Steve Pratt (Scoble’s FriendFeed status from 1 hour ago: Patrick, Milan, and me are rocking out to http://radio3.cbc.ca I’m addicted.)
Could Lily Allen be the funniest person on Twitter? Here is a TwitPic she posted after being up at 4:45 a.m. for the Today show, captioned: I should not be up this early.
I started following her after she appeared on a list linked to in @mashable’s Twitter feed about bands on Twitter.
I expected her to be funny (because of some of her hilarious lyrics) and was not disappointed. Here are a few recent Tweets:

PETA , By the way my coat isn’t real fur, but it was bloody expensive. Cover me in paint and I WILL send you the bill. 1 day ago from TwitterBerry

Most of the other bands’ streams were boring lists of concert dates, but I followed @DavidBowie (even though he only has one post!), and @treznor as these guys are very tech hip.
Go to grab a link and this pops up, who can keep up with them?

I heard it was OK to go off topic sometimes
Had fun at Vancouver’s Chinese New Year parade yesterday, so colourful. These Kung Fu club dragons put on a great show before heading indoors.
I made a wee photogallery of the parade today at my CBC practicum.
I hear the future begins May 8.
